Sandra Reid, vice president, corporate communications and strategic planning administration for The Davey Tree Expert Co., recently earned her certification as a strategic communication management professional (SCMP) from the Global Communication Certification Council.

Reid successfully met the rigorous requirements necessary to attain this honor. She also received a certification in communication management from the Global Communication Certificate Council in 2015.

“I’m guided by the idea that you can never stop challenging yourself or growing as a professional,” Reid said. “I hold Davey to this same standard. I plan to continue using my professional knowledge to explore creative ways to help Davey achieve its desired results.”

The Global Communication Certification Council, an initiative of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), represents the communication industry worldwide and serves as an autonomous governing body for the Global Communication Certification Program. The Council’s purpose is to create and maintain an internationally recognized standard of communication excellence, based on global understanding of key principles and job competencies.

Since joining Davey in 1986, Reid has worked in numerous corporate communications and marketing capacities. She has served as editor of the company magazine, The Bulletin, company spokesperson, manager of public relations and manager of corporate communications. In 2009, she was named manager, corporate communications and marketing and oversaw the integration of Davey’s corporate communications and marketing functions. In 2013 Reid was promoted to vice president.

Reid is a recipient of the Best of Davey Leadership Award and is a former member of the Davey President’s Council. She holds a master’s degree in organizational management from The University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a dual major in marketing and public relations, from Ohio Northern University.

Jack York, son of Ewing Irrigation & Landscape Supply President and CEO Douglas W. York, has joined the green industry wholesale distributor to open a new Ewing location in the New York tri-state area and serve as its branch manager.

“Starting with my grandfather King Ewing, we’ve grown the company with a focus on caring for our customers and creating a familylike culture. I am proud to continue that tradition and legacy with my son joining Ewing,” said Doug York.

With York’s experience in the area and with Ewing, he’ll support the company’s long-term expansion efforts while building upon the success and future of the company. With his experience as an investment banking analyst, York will also support Ewing as a national business development analyst.

After graduating from The University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s in economics, with a concentration in finance, York moved to Australia as a professional import player and coach for American football for teams in Melbourne and Sydney. After moving back to the states, York joined PJ Solomon, an investment banking advisory firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions in New York City. At PJ Solomon, he worked on various M&A transactions, specifically in the retail, technology, media and telecommunications and restaurant industries.

Lastec, a manufacturer of residential and commercial turf equipment headquartered in Indianapolis, added Ryan Cheek as sales director for its U.S. operation.

“This is an opportune time to join Lastec with new initiatives and a growing product range for residential and commercial customers,” Cheek said. “I am honored to be a part of this innovative, employee-owned company that has earned an excellent global reputation in the golf and turf industry for more than 25 years.”

Cheek brings more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and operation management for a major outdoor power equipment company.

“We are excited for Ryan to join Lastec and apply his industry knowledge to continue growing the entire Lastec range of products,” said John Smith, CEO of Wood-Mizer Holdings, the parent company of Lastec.
