The team concentrates primarily on removal defense, family-based immigration, litigation and appeals, naturalization and U.S. citizenship claims. BEST IN THEIR FIELD Both Joseph Reina and Brian Bates are Board Certified in Immigration and Nationality Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.* Brian was Board Certified in 1984 and Joe was nationality law examination committee. Each has been repeatedly listed in the Best Lawyers in America. Both are active members of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and each has served as Chair of the Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico Chapter of AILA.

Joseph Reina has successfully litigated numerous cases on behalf of aliens resisting deportation, including the precedent decision, Denada-Romo, issued by the Board of Immigration Appeals in May 2003. Joe’s peers have ranked him among Texas’ top five immigration lawyers in a survey conducted and published by Texas Lawyer.

From 2005 to 2006, Joe served as Chair of the Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico Chapter of AILA. He has been a member of the National Liaison Committee of AILA to the executive Office for Immigration Review of the U.S. Department of Justice. He has been officially engaged as counsel to the Consulate of Mexico in matters involving U.S. Immigration law. Joe is licensed in Texas and Washington, D.C.

Brian K. Bates has practiced immigration law for about 30 years and has extensive litigation experience representing clients in immigration court, as well as both federal district and appellate courts.
Many of Brian’s immigration cases have resulted in published appellate decisions. In 1988, Brian received the Litigation award from the Texas Chapter of AILA for an important court victory affecting thousands of amnesty applicants. He won a rare second litigation award for his 1996 asylum case Abel Masieh v. INS, before the 5th Circuit.

Brian served as Chair of Texas Chapter of AILA in 1993 to 1994 and served three years as Chairman of the National Liaison Committee of AILA to the Executive Office for the Immigration Review. In 1998, Brian received the AILA Sam Williamson Mentor Award for his work in assisting other immigration lawyers.
