Makita U.S.A. released the 18V LXT brushless cordless string trimmer (XRU12).

Designed for precision trimming and edging, this new cordless string trimmer expands Makita’s cordless outdoor power equipment offering and features a split-shaft design. The lower shaft and trimmer head detaches from the upper shaft, creating a more compact size for convenient storage and transportation.

The XRU12 can deliver up to 80 minutes of run time with one 18-volt LXT lithium-ion 4.0Ah battery. Its Makita-built outer rotor brushless motor direct-drive system provides high power and increased torque, and with a 12-inch cutting swath, the XRU12 offers increased productivity, according to the company.

A rubberized soft grip and adjustable loop handle provides increased operator comfort. The XRU02 features an ergonomic and balanced design and weighs 8.6 pounds with the battery. The bump and feed trimmer head comes loaded with 0.080-inch twisted quiet line.

The automatic torque drive technology mode automatically shifts from 4,000-6,000 RPM for extended run time or added power. Users can also select from three speed options for power management. Reverse rotation function allows operator to quickly clear trimmer head of entangled grass and weeds.

For added durability, it comes equipped with Makita’s Extreme Protection Technology, a series of integrated seals engineered to channel away dust and water for increased durability.
