NovaSource, a business unit of Tessenderlo Kerley, is voluntarily recalling certain batches of the turf fungicide product marketed under the brand names ArmorTech ALT 70 and Viceroy 70DF.

A laboratory investigation has revealed a trace amount of the herbicide sulfometuron methyl in the fungicide formulation. This issue appears to be confined to ALT 70 and Viceroy 70DF produced in 2013 bearing batch codes that begin with the number 6 (e.g., 6101701).

Instructions for ALT 70 70 and Viceroy 70DF users:

  • Do not use or apply Alt 70 or Viceroy 70DF with batch numbers starting with the number 6 (e.g., 6101701).
  • Return these products to the point of sale or to the product distributors:
    • ALT 70 – United Turf Alliance
    • Viceroy 70DF – United Phosphorous
  • NovaSource is offering product users the opportunity to return ALT 70 and Viceroy 70DF with batch numbers starting with the number 6 for full credit, including reimbursement of costs associated with the return.

Earlier this month, United Turf Alliance voluntarily stopped sale of ALT 70. This step followed reports of damaged turfgrass after the product was applied to bentgrass/Poa putting greens, collars and approaches. Similar incidents have been reported following the application of Viceroy 70DF.

An investigation is underway and additional information will be shared on the two websites established to communicate with the marketplace: alt70info.com and viceroyturfinfo.com.
